JUSTIN & MICHELLE ALL SAINTS CHIURCH & CHISLET COLLIERY CLUB CANTERBURY
It was another hot, sunny day for the wedding of Justin & Michelle taking place in Canterbury, one of my favourite local places for weddings. I started the day at Michelle's house where she was to be getting herself ready along with her bridesmaids. I had arrived early to photograph the transport for Michelle and her father to the church, a horse and carriage but unfortunately the horse had an accident and hurt its foot on route so they had to swap to a friends Porsche, not a bad substitute at least but were told a replacement horse would collect them after the ceremony and take them onto the reception venue.
I headed off to the All Saints Church along Military Road, Canterbury. This church was originally called The Garrison Church and was built in the 1840's as part of the Old Northgate Barracks. As usual, I got some shots of the guests and wedding party whilst waiting for the bride to arrive. After getting a few of Michelle arriving, I moved into the church to focus on the reactions of everyone, especially Justin.
The ceremony was really lovely! Michelle, you could tell was very excited and Justin, totally relaxed! The vicar went through the vows and hymns with me being allowed total freedom over where I stood for the photographs so I was able to move around a fair bit, a rarity for a church wedding. But this meant I could get photos of both of them and the guests. I got some more shots of the register signing then afterwards outside whilst they waiting for the transport to arrive.
The beautiful horse and carriage arrived and took Justin and Michelle to the reception venue, Chislet Colliery Welfare Club, originally built for the miners in the late 1950's. The venue had been decorated as a surprise by a friend and looked really nice! They were both over the moon with it! As the bar opened, the guests started mingling and the buffet was served, followed by the speeches. After the wedding breakfast, of course came the first dance. I was asked to stay until around 7pm so got the chance to get a selection of photos of the guests enjoying themselves! Although as it turned out, the bridesmaids forgot they had the huge confetti tubes so they had a second dance but this time with confetti.
I really did enjoy photographing the wedding of Justin and Michelle, they are a lovely couple. Made me feel extremely welcome as did all their family and friends. They made sure I was never without food or a drink and there was never a moment without laughter in the room. I wish them both all the best for the future and hope they have a wonderful happy married life together!
