Leigh & Sharon
Venue - Christ Church & Sidcup Sports Club
Location - Sidcup, Kent
Date - 2nd May 2014
For today’s vintage inspired wedding we were heading up to Sidcup. The weather was looking pretty good, was a bit chilly but at least it was dry. We were to be photographing the wedding preparations at Leigh & Sharon’s home. On arrival it was already very busy. There was to be 4 adult bridesmaids and 4 flower girls, who were their daughters.
The lounge and downstairs bathroom were being used for hair and makeup so we worked between both the rooms. In between Sharon and the bridesmaids were enjoying a glass of bubbly and pie & chips from the chip shop. Claire popped upstairs to the master bedroom to get some detail shots of Sharon’s dress, shoes, accessories and the bridesmaids red shoes whilst I got some photos downstairs of everyone finishing off getting ready plus the vintage Morris Minor that had arrived to collect Sharon, plus I had the chance to meet the videographer who had just arrived to speak to him regarding the ceremony so we didn’t get in each other’s way too much lol.
We all headed up stairs to the kids room as this was the best place to get the flower girls and bridesmaids ready. Claire helped the girls get to grips with the petticoats to go underneath the red 1950's Lindy Bop dresses. Once everyone was ready minus the shoes, which were going on once downstairs lol, we headed upstairs to the master bedroom again to grab a few photos of Sharon getting into her dress.
The look on Sharon’s four daughter’s faces when their mum walked down the stairs in her dress was priceless! A mixture of happy tears and just pure excitement. Claire got a few photos of them outside the house, whilst I let them know we would head off to Sidcup Church so we could photograph Leigh and the guests before Sharon arrived.
It was only a 15-20 minute journey to the church and on arrival, we headed inside to check lighting and speak to the vicar as to where we could stand during the ceremony. Again the church was very dark with unfortunately not much natural light and as usual with church services, you can’t use flash during the ceremony. But we were free to move around freely along with the videographer. The ceremony went smoothly; I mainly worked at the front whilst Claire moved around, capturing different angles. The light was a bit of a challenge, the videographer was having issues too but in all we got a great selection of photos.
Afterwards we headed to the Church garden to the side of the building and worked for around 20-30 minutes with Leigh & Sharon, bringing in ushers, bridesmaids and flower girls when needed. Though after around 20 minutes, the guests all hid back inside the church as it was getting quite cold outside. Sharon & Leigh were to be taking the Morris Minor to the reception so we headed off to the Sidcup Rugby Club. It was just starting to spit with rain so everyone headed inside where the buffet was laid out and the bar open ready for everyone to get a needed drink.
The hall was decorated with candles on each table, a sweet and chocolate fountain table (dangerous for me haha) and the wedding cake was set up alongside a table display of photographs and the guest book. There was also a basket of flip flops and hoola hoops ready for the evening. We grabbed a shot that Sharon & Leigh wanted of everyone together before they settled down to start the speeches and handed out some gifts to the flower girls. Afterwards the guests headed over to the buffet table to grab some food. Once the DJ arrived and started the music, the kids all jumped onto the dance floor and this pretty much continued until the first dance, apart from at one point when they all ran outside to play with the hoops. Everyone joined in at the end of the first dance and this was literally how we left, with a full dance floor and everyone having loads of fun.
